Amy loves swimming, and has been in the pool since she was just a young girl. Today, she heads up the SwimNE team, helping to ensure our lessons - and everything else - run smoothly.

Zelah knows everything there is to know about swimming. She is the queen of health & safety here at SwimNE, too. She is also a qualified lifeguard, and an all-round superstar!

Head of training & development
Matt is in charge of all things training here at SwimNE. He trains our staff, and he also delivers regular training courses on behalf of Swim England, helping instructors up and down the country to flourish.

Head of customer experience
Our lessons simply couldn't run smoothly without our fantastic support team. Shelley leads on all things here. She deals with enquiries, sorts out class moves, and keeps our office ticking (and us laughing!)

Our story

SwimNE started back in 2006. At the time, Phil Groom - a former competitive swimmer - was working as a swimming instructor. Phil saw a real opportunity to improve the way that children's swimming lessons were delivered, and it was this idea that led him to start up his own swim school.

Phil started SwimNE, and began running learn to swim lessons from a pool in the north of Newcastle. Word soon spread, and before long, he was able to add more pools to the timetable, and started recruiting new instructors.

This growth continued and, five years after it started, SwimNE was crowned Swim England's Swim School of the Year - an award that we are incredibly proud of, and one that we went on to win again in 2018. That's not all, though... we were also invited by Swim England - the governing body for all things swimming - to help them in the production of video and training materials used to teach instructors all over the UK. They asked us because they know we are great at what we do, and they know how good we are at training our own staff (you can find out more about that here).

So, where are we today? We are the leading swimming lesson provider in the north-east. We've taught tens of thousands of children. We have opened not one but two pools of our own. We are still growing. And we love what we do.
