What are we looking for?

Founded in 2006, SwimNE is the north-east’s leading - and the largest - independent swim school. We have twice been crowned Swim England’s Swim School of the Year, and we are growing at an incredible rate.

We are looking for enthusiastic swimming instructors to join our team.

Successful candidates will teach group and private lessons, which are offered to children aged 4 years old and up. You’ll be joining a fun, friendly and - well, there’s just no other word for it - awesome team.

Do I need a swim teacher qualification to apply?

No- we will provide you with all the training you need! All you need is an enthusiastic, can-do attitude and a desire to learn.

The training you undertake (worth over £700) will be fully-funded by SwimNE and will see you gain a recognised UK swimming teacher qualification (Level 2 STA Award in Teaching Swimming).

The training

Successful candidates will complete several days of training (see important dates section below) and will shadow some of our existing teaching team before starting to deliver their own lessons.

The training will cover areas such as:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a swimming teacher
  • Planning
  • Scientific principles of teaching swimming
  • Skills and strokes
  • Effective teaching (communication, motivation and positioning)
  • Inclusion and disability
  • Safety and rescue
  • Safeguarding

All successful candidates will undergo a DBS check, and will have their first year of membership to the STA paid.

The role

On successful completion of your training, you’ll become an official member of the SwimNE teaching team. You’ll be working 15-25 hours per week, and these hours will be spread over up to four evenings and one weekend day.

You’ll deliver small group and private lessons to school-aged children. You’ll need to be in the water for some of these classes; others – depending on the stage - may be taught from the side of the pool.

Lessons are delivered from venues in Shiremoor, Killingworth, Whitley Bay and Newcastle City Centre.
